Meyer Luckman was the father of Sid Luckman, star quarterback of Erasmus High in Brooklyn, Columbia University and the Chicago Bears. Luckman's father was an illiterate German-Jewish immigrant who made a fortune in the trucking business. In March 1935 Meyer was indicted with two other employees for murdering a shipping clerk. The case gripped New York City for several years in 1935-1936.
