South of the Deadline
by Barbara Riegel
In 1910, Seattle’s red light district, called the “Deadline,” is doing booming business in gambling, boozing and prostitution. Clara Johnson, a singer and prostitute, is found murdered in a cheap hotel. Suffragette Sophie Bramson, fleeing the music halls of Paris, returns to Seattle and meets Dr. Lars Haglund, a surgeon and pioneer forensic scientist. Together they investigate Clara's death.
