David, barely in elementary school when he first meets Lanny, lives in awe of his next door neighbor. Lanny is the mysterious neighbor whom you realize you don't really know. Lanny comes and goes at all hours, takes mysterious trips at the drop of a hat, is gone for months, and even makes the newspapers in an unflattering way. This is their story, set amidst the breakup of David's family.
