Caryl Chessman was executed in the gas chamber at San Quentin in 1960. Convicted of kidnappings, his case dragged on for more than 12 years. During this time Chessman wrote 4 successful books, which were autobiographical in genre. My book looks at his paternal ancestry and the kidnappings for which he was sentenced to die.
