The kingdom of Diachona is celebrating the twentieth birthday of Constance, the king’s daughter. Yet, the festivities don’t erase doubts about Constance’s aspiration for a place on the National Council, nor do they eliminate fears roused by threats from a neighboring empire. Amid increasing rumors of war, Constance deems this an inopportune time to be falling in love with one Commander Alexander.
