A South Philadelphia Numbers Racket Linked To Police Payoffs June 1956

In June 1956 the Philadelphia Inquirer reported the suspension of a policeman who had taken payoffs from South Philly gamblers. One of the gamblers, James "Jimmy" Singleton had been arrested twenty-four times since 1928. Singleton worked for dapper crime boss Marco Reginelli in the south and southwest Philadelphia area. Gambler Michael Switz controlled the racket in central Philadelphia. More
