I prefer the author's first novel (that I read) In the Town of Joy and Peace, though I understand it's not really comparable since Carts and Other Stories is a collection of stories.
I enjoy this author's writing: it's like dark magical realism with a really good (country/village) sense of humor. I enjoy being traipsed to Bulgaria and the strange characters and strange world they inhabit. I particularly enjoyed "The Old House", "Winds", "The Hawthorn Bush", and "Carts". Of course, I also generally tend to enjoy literature out of Fomite Press.
