This short story is actually a bit of a prequel to the first Penelope book (Penelope and the Birthday Curse), and a fun one at that. Penelope's eccentric family decides to celebrate Christmas with their own unique twists. No store bough Christmas tree or decorations for them! But, even as Penelope is enjoying her first attempt at the holiday, a mysterious neighbor moves in nearby - or at least some of their furniture does. With nothing but a chair, a lamp and a Christmas tree, can there really be anyone living there? And if so, then who?

A fun short story and perfect for this time of year!

An engaging Christmas story that was funny and reflective. Had me wondering how it would end. This is a great read for children and adults.

I truly recommend Penelope and The Christmas Spirit. I plan on reading it to my grandchildren this Christmas. Ron Voigts has done a wonderful job bringing the spirit of Christmas to his story. He has a gift in story telling and knows how to bring adventure to a story that young children will enjoy experiencing.

Penelope and The Christmas Spirit is a sentimental introduction to the Penelope Mystery series. I immediately fell in love with Penelope and identified with the desires of her heart that her rather austere mother and egg-head father seem to ignore. The Spirit of Christmas descends upon Penelope as mysteriously as it does on those who believe there is something more to life than meets the eye. I look forward to following Penelope’s journey.
