This book by Xolani Kacela is awesome in many ways. as a female Hispanic reading each essay was like turning back the clock in time. There were so many similarity's in his growing up as in mine. The music, playing base ball on dirt roads until you couldn't see the ball, being brought up in a loving family made a huge difference, having to work twice a hard to earn the same as my white friend. He brought it to life with his words, it's great to be able to read and reflect and have someone to be honest to write about trials and tribulations of growing up (being people of color) and we still are having to deal with certain issues.
God help us all!

As one of Xolani's congregants, I welcomed this chance to learn more of his views about many topics where we've arrived at about the same place from quite different routes. His openness is refreshing, and his views are very well informed and thought. I really like the way he is able to still respect and care for old friends whose paths and attitudes have diverged from his.

I enjoyed reading this collection of essays/reflections on topics ranging from hair cuts and shoes to racism (while demonstrations over the killing of George Floyd foil many cities). As an acquaintance of Kacela and a member of the paler nation, I found the essays worth reading (and, for some, rereading).

I wish I knew where the line between love and kindness begins (p35) ! How much better the World would be, if everyone was as honest and introspective as Rev Xolani. Clearly he was meant to be either a psychiatrist or a minister. He seems to be something of both.

Kacela lets you know he's doing something different and his observations detailed in this book are finely tuned. If you are like me and Southern-bred and are well-traveled, this book will really resonate with you.

This book by Xolani Kacela is awesome in many ways. First, he has original ideas that will pique your curiosity about the world and provoke you to think differently about common stuff. Second, I learned about how men communicate with each other just by a head nod. Amazing! Third, I like it that the chapters are short and have a lot of bite-size nuggets that you can apply in your life immediately.

Highest recommendation.
