About D. August Baertlein

I write software by day and stories by night, a combo made even odder by the fact that I started my adult life as a marine biologist/geneticist. Even though I got my Ph.D. ever so long ago I still love science, especially the biological variety, and my fiction is full of it. Science, I mean.

Reviews of Synapse by D. August Baertlein

Synapse was a fast, thrilling page-turner. I read on my Kindle and it really stayed with me after I finished. I was particularly impressed with the science aspect of the science fiction. It felt both plausible and fantastical. Throughout the read I often thought to myself, "Really? Could that happen? Maybe it could...!" I appreciated that the author didn't dumb anything down, that she didn't soften some of the harsher scenes. Some characters were bad - they did bad things - and she didn't try to paint a rosy picture all the time. Fortunately, at least some of them get their comeuppance! A great read for teens and adults.
