This book has 30+ contributors from the University of Toronto, Harvard, Hopkins, Washington University, and Western University, all of whom have received teaching awards.

Unlike other texts that focus heavily on education theory, we concentrate on the pragmatic teaching tips and the teaching philosophies of acclaimed front-line instructors. The text begins with a brief review of education principles including learning theories, active learning, curriculum development, writing learning objectives, competency-based education, and delivering feedback. Articles from the Best Evidence for Medical Education series are referenced.

The remainder of the book presents practical teaching pearls from award-winning physicians and professors. The contributors include foundational science professors, primary care physicians, internists, and surgeons. Each author discusses their career evolution, teaching philosophy, teaching tips, and thoughts on the future of pedagogy in their specialty. Most of the teaching tips are cross-disciplinary and immediately applicable to practice.

The last section discusses advanced topics including medical professionalism, continuing professional development, humor, the 2SLGBTQ+ and indigenous curricula, online teaching, simulation, and medical education leadership. A glossary of education terms concludes the text.

In closing, good teaching is powerful and affords many leadership opportunities for positive social action. Furthering this notion, the text is distributed free/at cost in hopes that satisfied readers will contribute to their local food banks.
