I am like You. Working my career, taking care of my family, and happened to live near my parents. A crisis happened! My dad broke his hip. I did what most of us "adult children" would do. I was referred to a Home Care Agency and my dad contracted with them for their services. It has been a 6 year Nightmare! Did you know, these Agencies are paid around $20-$30/hour while they pay their contract labor Minimum Wage? Then, who would want to work for minimum wage to sit with an old person in place of making at least $15/hour elsewhere??
That they may Not be Background Checked, Drug Tested, nor Fingerprinted??
This isn't only my story, but others true Horrific stories of dealing with inept, unscrupulous caregivers that you think are properly screened for employment! Through these stories, you'll learn signs to look for, questions to ask, how to better qualify an agency or an individual caregiver. It is so important, since most loved ones would prefer to remain home rather than be sent to a nursing facility. We can just do the best we can, depending on what our parents will allow! We all must make plans for our "4th Quarter/Sunset Years/Golden Years" whatever you want to call it - we don't get out of here alive! Be Aware & Be Prepared!
