If you do not know what a Voodoo Hoodoo Man is, you will after you read this collection of stories about a Pittsburgh-based private eye, who is a cross between Indiana Jones and Sam Spade. Lean prose and no words wasted. Many of the standard tropes of detective stories are present: his plucky Gal Friday, crooked cops, beautiful mysterious women, and two-fisted action, but the author manages to keep the stories fresh and engaging. Lots of interesting historical details of the era, too. Visit the website, lazarusflynn.com, which is pretty cool. Give it a try. You won’t be sorry.
