About W S Long

Raised in a military family, I lived in different places. This peripatetic life forced me to take refuge in books at a young age. I can't tell you how many books I read. But in middle school and through high school, I loved reading Victor Hugo, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens, and Jules Verne. I then switched gears as I got into late puberty and checked out books written by D.H. Lawrence, Anais Nin, and others during my more Freudian stage.

I guess, in hindsight, I was trying to determine why I had feelings for other boys my age.

I left home at seventeen to join the military and thought my issues with same-sex attraction could be solved.

Today, this would be called reparative therapy, the same debunked psychological treatment being tried to convert gays into ex-gays. Back then, I tried to repair myself without the need of anyone, other than church and family who expected me to be more normal.

It took living life, counseling, going to church, and surrounding myself with positive influences before I came to terms in my late 20s at a time when it was tough to be openly gay.

Why do I read and write male-male romance? Frankly, we all need love and romance in our lives.

You can never have too much love, or romance. Right?
