About Hong Hong Guo

Hong Hong Guo was born in China and studied Japanese literature and marketing science in China and Japan, currently residing in Australia. During her time in Japan, she had the opportunity to meet and interview some Japanese who were left behind when Japan's puppet state in Manchuria collapsed following World War II.

Known as 'residual orphans,' many of these abandoned Japanese were forced to live in the mountains or with Chinese families as wives or adopted children.

Farewell China tells the heart-breaking stories and war memories of those who struggled to survive before being repatriated to Japan in the 1970s.
