About Sylvia Hubbard

Detroit native, Sylvia Hubbard, a single mother of three, has worked tirelessly to promote and encourage emerging writers in Michigan. She independently published her first romance novel in 2000 and has continued to write in that genre, sometimes venturing into other sub-genres. Always urban and contemporary styled, her writing is enjoyed all over the world. She has published 8 paperbacks and over 30 e-books.

The same year she published, Ms Hubbard also created Motown Writers Network to fill the lack of education and networking for Michigan authors online and offline. By 2004, she was frustrated that all the literary conferences had moved too far away from the city and co-created The Essence of Motown Literary Jam Conference held only in the City of Detroit annually.

In addition to romance writing, Hubbard has been featured at various conferences and workshops all over the United States and Canada, where she has taught authors how to sell their books on the Internet. She also published Internet Marketing for Writers & Businesses as a resource for those unable to attend her workshops. In the upcoming year, she will be featured in several anthologies and plans to publish additional e-books.

Hi, No Labels Unleashed, part of The Review Board. I am posting on behalf of fellow board member Mr. Controversy regarding his views on your book. For the extended (full version) of the review, please come to this link:

Avid Reader Review stated that, “Sylvia Hubbard is one of the best Authors I’ve ever read!”

Seeing this statement on the front cover of her book got me thinking, “Hmmm. Let’s see if this statement is true….”

I haven’t read her other works as far as the characters, yet I was able to keep score as far as the characters in this short novella which I completed in about two and a half hours. Also, I am happy that she lets the readers know up front of the revisions that she has made to this story.

The story’s first two paragraphs got me hooked INSTANTLY! It completely sets the mood for what was about to unfold. Ms. Hubbard has a way of describing characters, what they are doing, and their facial expressions in her story has kept me turning the pages to see what happened next.

“Love Like This” reads like a “D” Movie on Cinemax where unknown actors can successfully raise the Believability of the story to an excellent level.

Allow me to be PERFECTLY CLEAR: This is NOT a bad thing at all! Several movies with unknown actors have indeed gained credibility in the movie industry. Ms. Hubbard’s “Love Like This” has GREAT POTENTIAL to be made into a Premium Cable Channel movie. This is one of those stories that WILL NOT be shown on Lifetime.

Despite Ms. Hubbard informing her readers that there were revisions made to “Love Like This”, there are still a few errors (I.E.: Bryon vs. Byron at the start of Chapter 2, sentence structure, few grammatical errors). Also, some of the dialogue between the characters in several paragraphs was jumbled together, causing a bit of confusion (TO ME). However, if the reader(s) follow closely with what is/was discussed between the characters, this can be overlooked.

Ms. Sylvia Hubbard has a vivid imagination, and can tell a very good and solid story. Ms. Hubbard shows not only promise, she also shows dedication to what she does in her writing abilities. As long as she has an extra set of eyes on her artwork to keep uniformity and errors to a minimum, she will continue to go far in her writing.

Pick up “Love Like This” for a shocker of a great time!

I am confused by the mixed reviews on this book. This is my favorite book. The twisted storyline kept me enagaged. It is such a thriller and you will be hooked untill the last line. I wish this book was a movie also. lol

3.5 Stars

I enjoyed this read, but it won't be everyone's cup of tea because of the racial assumptions, and incest that goes on in the book, but the love story between Ethan and Nicole was solid, although a bit awkward to begin with. They had a somewhat grimey start, but it really developed into something really special. Nicole's relationship with her Nana was extremely heartfelt, it really added a level of compassion to the book. Overall I liked the read and would recommend it.

The story was interesting, but the plot got a little out of whack a few times. What kept this from being a great story was the fact that the writing was....not good. Someone else said disjointed and odd, that's a good description. I feel like it really could have been so much more.
And what guy wears green slacks and a green shirt and looks good in it???? Not believable at all.
