Purchased ebook for living in CR on $1500 a month. It was well written and gives a good overview on expenses that currently exist in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is on my short list to retire and this is a good material reference document to use.

Well written from a personal perspective. He doesn't try to convince you one way or another, just to tell things from his perspective. I often read his contributions to various forums and his comments and observations are always well considered and honest. I am a future expat who has read the book over and over. One of the best personal experience books I have read.

If you don't believe it, you'd better get ready for a surprise! The author of this book actually does live in Paradise on a budget of $1500 a month, and he lives very nicely. In the book, Fred Holmes tells step-by-step how he and his wife Mary made their dream come true. If you have ever thought about living in Costa Rica, or even traveling there for an extended stay, this book is a "must-read" for you. Fred tells it like it is; no glossy promotions, just the simple truth about what one needs to do to get there and stay; all the pro's and con's of life in Costa Rica; and how to enjoy life as the "Ticos" do.

Excellent book with exactly the information I needed. Takes a lot of the mystery and fear out of making the move to Costa Rica. The author relates facts based on experience. Highly recommended!

This is a must-read not just for those exploring retirement options, but for anyone planning a trip to Costa Rica. The book is well-organized with short chapters that provide sufficient information on a wide variety of topics including banking, car ownership, food, and healthcare. The author does a nice job of not getting bogged down in specific details that would not apply to many readers, and the chapters are laid out such that you could skip parts that did not apply to you.
I was expecting a strict budgeting regimen and squalid living conditions as part the of "$1500 plan," and while there is a small section describing a typical budget one could follow, this book is much more than that. The author demonstrates first-hand that it IS possible to live in Costa Rica on a relatively small fixed income without sacrificing a good quality of life. Fred and Mary have discovered a secret that many in the Baby Boomer generation will be looking for as retirement looms with dwindling savings and a bleak economy. My only hope is that not too many will find out before my time comes.
Well-written, informative, and entertaining. Worth every penny.
