The novel opens with the nightmare of millions of Indians and the dream of Asian Muslim fundamentalists coming true. India has been transformed into an Islamic country, putting the finishing touches to a hundred-year old plot that had its seed in the 1947 partition of India. Instead of the tri-coloured Indian flag, the green Pakistani flag is flying from the top of Red Fort. Then it cuts back to 2045, to describe the action that takes place in final five years of the plot.
The main novel, set in 2045-2050, is about the titanic struggle between two armies when the Indian republic is in its death throes. The first army trying to transform India into an Islamic country and the second army trying to foil them.
The former group is led by Fatima Syed, in charge of implementing Project TITIS, Transform India To an Islamic State. She is aided by the Dubai don, Shahjahan Malik, the Egyptian tycoon Hasem Qureshi, the various Kashmiri militant outfits, and the two political parties, Progress Party and SMPI (Stalinist Maoist Party of India). The latter is led by Vijay Sharma and Sumantro Sen of SIBIS, Stop India Becoming an Islamic State, and the other core committee members of SIBIS.
HK-41, invented in a London lab, is the mysterious bio-chemical weapon, which Fatima Syed will use to decide the fate of millions of Hindus in India. In the thrilling cat-and-mouse games between the two armies, SIBIS's attempts to capture Fatima Syed turn out to be furtive again and again. In between, the Indian Prime Minister Mahendra Kumar Singh is assassinated and the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya is blown to smithereens in a powerful blast. The resultant bloody communal riots all over India leads to the American President Winston Drum announcing hard-hitting sanctions against India.
Pakistan's President and Prime Minister die in a plane explosion, which enables General Asif Ali Mirza to take over in a bloodless coup in Pakistan. Various agents start smuggling HK-41 into India. Fatima Syed executes the first stage of her plan, which sees the Hindus of India start getting paralysed in a mysterious disease.
Towards the closing stages of the novel, in a blood-curdling climax, Vijay Sharma, Sumantro Sen and almost all of the SIBIS core committee members are assassinated. In January 2050, Pakistan and Bangladesh attack and conquer India, with China threatening to nuke any country that dare stop them and the American President Henry McPherson backing off after spy satellite provides pictures of hundreds of nuclear tipped ICBM's in Tibet targeting the USA. Pakistan, Bangladesh and India coalesce to form the Holy Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The novel ends with General Asif Ali Mirza being designated as the Supreme Lord of the Holy Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
