I wrote a review but it seems to have disappeared! I don't think I can reconstruct it, but suffice to say, I very much enjoyed this iconoclastic historical romance, with its independent and adventurous characters and portrayals of the worlds of theater and expeditions.

Powerful saga of a strong woman and an adventurous man. While this is primarily a romance plot, it offers a great deal of history and adventure besides. I especially appreciated the view of theater life in the Regency period, and the rise of the British expedition, explorers searching for lost lands.

While David was the real adventurer, Thea in her way was just as reckless and searching. Her independence leads her into danger and isolation, but her love for life always leads her towards happiness.
The ending is intensely romantic and fulfilling.
