This is the sequal to The Energy, the story of Brighton and Lillian continues. This book is an action packed, non stop, can't put down read. The story of Brighton,Lilly, their children and friends will keep you emotionally entangled in the story. You liked them in Energy, now you will love them. This book is full of action, heroes, developing powers, inner struggles, a love story and new characters you will love as well. I do urge you to read the first book before this as I think it has much needed info. This is a fantastic book that you will not soon forget.

I always enjoy reading a book with such likeable characters. They draw you into their world and make you feel as though you're right there alongside them through the journey of their lives.

Birth of a Wizard, continues the story of Brighton and Lilan and follows on from Energy quite well. Brighton and Lilian are trying to find a place to call their own and as their life together progresses, they learn so much about their 'magical' abilities.

This story has more action than Energy, but it is neccessary to the storyline.

With the help of friends new and old, Brighton and Lilan help the people of the Dark Land and those from the lands beyond the pass. They help during the Elf war and rid the Kingdom of the evil that was killing it.
Through the joys and adversity of their lives, the love that Brighton and Lilian share continues to strengthen and grow.

Birth of a Wizard was an absolute pleasure to read.

I am not a person who generally likes to read the sequels. But after reading the first in The Energy Chronicles series, I knew I wanted to read this one. Luckily I am in receipt of a gift of the second novel in the trilogy from the author.

Lilian and Brighton, who grew up together, who meet at a later age and marry in the first novel, are now moving into a new stage in their lives. Together they have conquered the evil people in their homeland and have set out, with friends, to build a new home in a new locale.

Leaving their home in the small village of Four Mountains, they have journeyed over the mountains to a new life. But with Brighton and Lilian both having special gifts, life can never be easy. No matter where they go their gifts will bring them both success and heartbreak. As Brighton feels the full range of his power he makes a mistake and uses it without complete knowledge of the situation. This mistake causes ramifications that are far reaching. Instead of the peace they longed for they are now in a life and death situation.

Again, working together, they must find the way to peace and tranquility not only in their environment but in their hearts.

Birth of a Wizard works well as the second in the series but is a complete novel on its own. While reading the first leads the reader into the story it is not necessary. The mark of a good author. The back stories of the characters are added when needed and appropriate and there is no long monologue in the beginning to set up the story. Errors are few and those that are present don't jar the reader out of the suspension of disbelief.

Well written, but and as long as the first in the series, the author keeps the tension building with skill. The story is believable and the settings are described with ease. The reader may find himself falling into the world of witches, fairies and magical powers without even noticing. Wait, did I say magic? Is there magic here?

With battles, contests of powers, mythological creatures and a sweeping landscape the story is a fantasy lover's delight.

For all lovers of fantasy and magical characters (there is that word again) this is a good read that we recommend. This is still an 18+ for us for adult sexual situations.

After reading Energy I just HAD to get Birth of a Wizard. The author had so skillfully created the characters that I could not put down this story after book 1... Energy had left me wanting more and Birth of a Wizard definitely delivered what I was craving :) Brighton and Lilian had more adventures than I could keep track of during this book and I literally left it wondering what else could possibly happen in book 3! I am seriously in awe of this author. He has a way with words that just pulls you in and doesn't let you go...ever! The only problem I have is now I have to wait for book 3 to come out... Other than that negative, I would have to say that you're just bonkers if you don't read this series! I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a lovely supernatural/witch/wizard/magic story :)

After reading Energy, the first book to the trilogy, I had to get my hands on Birth of a Wizard. I tend not to have high expectations of sequels, but thanks to this amazing author, I will never have low expectations on sequels again. I LOVED this book just as much, if not more, than the first book. I couldn't put it down. I laughed, cried, yelled and cheered from beginning to end. The author has a special skill for making you feel a connection with the characters and their surroundings. The books starts right where the last one ended, continuing the journey of Brighton, Lillian, their friends and family, and lets not forget Mischief. You will see some familiar faces along with some new ones. A continuing battle to survive their life of good vs. evil. This book will have you on the edge of your set from cover to cover. I highly recommend this book for anyone that loves a great read. Thank you M.J. for another journey with old friends, you have left me again wanting more.

Brighton, Lilian, their children and two dear friends have crossed the Western boundary in search of a new, peaceful life.
Just as they think they have settled down, tragedy strikes and Brighton is forced to use his gift. This causes Brighton to earn an unwanted reputation, which will haunt them for years to come. Can Brighton and Lilian overcome the adversity which haunts them?

This is the second book by MJ Schutte of the Energy Chronicles. I absolutely LOVED it. The story carries on from the end of Energy. Brighton, Lilian and the children, along with their two friends, Adri and Brac, have crossed the western boundary and have decided on settling down in Fenton. I love all the characters in this book! MJ has written a fantastic series. I love the action and the romance! As I read this book, I became a honoured observer of the trials and tribulations of the most realistic characters to leap out of a book. Sometimes I felt like I was right in the midst of the action. There is more than one scene in which I absolutely felt I was there. It was EPIC! I am in awe of the ability of this author to pull a reader into his world. I am definitely going to read more of his books in the future! If you haven't read the first book, Energy, I recommend that you do. - Lynn Worton
