My name is Jo Ana Starr. I have been the Director of the New England Institute of Hypnotherapy since 1999; I am a veteran social researcher; a popular Speaker on the topics of Hypnotherapy, Self Hypnosis and the Mind-Body connection; and the author of 14 books and e-books that are designed to help readers improve their lives and achieve their personal goals.

In my earlier years of researching mind-body techniques, I tried almost every method to gain happiness, focus, and peace. I finally found Hypnosis and was amazed at how easy Self Hypnosis made the process. It's simple; it's pleasant, and it works. In my books, I share with you how to train your brain to accomplish your goals, and provide the tools and information you need to do just that. Helping you to access your inner genius is my goal in writing these books, and one that I take very seriously.
Now, a bit of background information about me. I have worked in the field of Clinical Hypnotherapy since 1987, training with the esteemed Dr. A. Krasner of the American Institute of Hypnotherapy and working with clients and groups thereafter. In 1999, I founded the New England Institute of Hypnotherapy as a professional Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Certification training program that has successfully trained over 5200 Clinical Hypnotherapists internationally.
My academic background is in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Communication, Psychology, and Education. Because of my educational background and professional experience, Based on my years of experience with clients and students, I feel qualified to help you to train your brain to move you toward your goals. I genuinely delight in writing books that can help readers to create a more fulfilling life. I am happy and grateful to be able to share what I have learned with you.
If you are new to Self Hypnosis and you aren't sure which book to read first, I suggest that you start with Quantum Self Hypnosis or one of the shorter Quantum Self Hypnosis specific application books. Depending on whether you are interested in mastering one application or are wanting a great overview with lots of hypnosis scripts, one of these choices will be perfect for you. Quantum Hypnosis Scripts, and Eyes Open Self Hypnosis are also great books, and offer valuable information and resources for those who are interested in improving their lives through the use of Self Hypnosis.

Detailed hypnosis scripts with a positive, rather than aversion therapy approach
Dr. Starr has written other books introducing the reader to the practice of self-hypnosis to combat particular personal problems such as weight loss, substance abuse, relationship problems, etc. This book goes beyond that and consists of plentiful full hypnosis scripts which can be used either by professionals in the field, or for self hypnosis use.
She gives detailed suggestions for the ideal use of these scripts as well as presenting 2 master hypnosis inductions, needed to bring about the hypnotic state to make the beneficial use of the hypnosis session scripts possible. What is really good is that there are 3 hypnosis scripts each for addressing the problems of weight loss and stress reduction, common problems that a lot of people have. Unlike some quacks who seem to suggest an instant “cure” is possible for weight or stress problems, Dr. Starr is a realistic enough professional to acknowledge that these troubling maladies are ideally dealt with over time through a series of sessions, designed to get at he roots of the problems.
Unlike some other authors who cannibalize one published general work on the subject and repackage portions of it to sell the same information again, Dr. Starr’s latest book presents all new hypnosis behavior modification scripts, with no duplicate from her more introductory book Quantum Self Hypnosis (other than what she describes as an additional “bonus” stop smoking script). I also like, very much, the fact that she takes a positive, present tense, and affirmative approach, rather than the approach of negative programming or aversion therapy that some use. Aversion therapy, I think, all too often just tries to condition a negative response to stimuli (you will feel nauseous or uneasy after smoking a cigarette or pigging out on ice cream) rather than trying to address the real cause for the problem in the first place and channeling the need or craving into a more positive direction.
