The fires of war spread across the land as an army of zealous Trisaders torches all that stands in the way of their sacred Harmony. Their general, the Executor, will stop at nothing to destroy the one who holds the amulet and ensure that the prophecy concerning it does not come to pass. Is Camnin the one for whom the Recûlla Star shines, destined to end the Executor's reign of terror? More
In the aftermath of a terrible defeat in which his army was routed, the unwilling draftee Camnin flees into an unforgiving desert. Torn from his home by the invading legion of Trisaders who forced him into their army, Camnin's sole longing is to return to the tent of his father, having been away from his home for many years. But the cruelty of the desert overwhelms the lone wanderer, and he collapses on a dune, presuming he is to die where he has fallen.
But Camnin's journey is only beginning...
When a beautiful and mysterious young woman named Cephiri happens upon Camnin in the wilderness, she snatches him from the jaws of death through an arcane power of healing which flows through her blood and manifests through her touch. Cephiri then takes Camnin to Eledoch, a monk-like warrior of an ancient protector order known as the Judges. It is Eledoch who sees the boy's potential; who understands his destiny. And it is Eledoch who instantly unravels the secret of the amulet around Camnin's neck, and the mystery of Camnin's ability to experience the memories of others in his dreams. But the grizzled old Judge discerns that Camnin must discover the truth for himself, and now the three of them must journey to Erud Astûl, the Wise City, to seek the counsel of the Assembly of Judges concerning Camnin's great destiny.
But the fires of war spread across the land as an army of zealous Trisaders torches all that stands in the way of their sacred Harmony. Their general, the Executor—a monstrous creature afflicted with a disfiguring leprosy that forces him to hide his face behind an iron mask—will stop at nothing to destroy the one who holds the amulet and make sure the prophecy concerning it does not come to pass.
Is Camnin the one for whom the prophesied Recûlla Star shines? Or will he, the Judge, and Cephiri—with whom Camnin has fallen deeply in love—end up like all the rest of the Executor's enemies...dangling from a hook on a gallows?
