Young love is hard, no matter who you are or what you are. This young adult short story by Richard Roberts tells the story of two star-crossed lovers in a steampunk setting. Even though they've never seen the ground, theirs is a story as old as Romeo and Juliet. Will it end just as tragically?
As an author, I favor two types of literature: Dark fantasy and stories about children. Often they're the same thing. Currently I am in the process of getting my backlog of books and short stories published online while I work on the next book.

Take The Machine Stops, add a good dose of Romeo and Juliet and mix well. Sprinkle a dust of post-apocalyptic steampunk, and you get Above the Clouds, the story of two AI-driven airships who fall in love during a war -- a theme fairly uncommon even in genre fiction. For the more sensitive readers, it's also a feel-good story with a happy ending... or is it? Read to find out.

Verdict: Steampunk meets love in the air. If you like the wonders of airships and flying sharks told in a simple tale of redemption and love, read this story. It hardly felt like over 8,000 words. An easy read.
