Hailey Parrish wanted an ebook reader because her collection of paperbacks threatened to take over her small living space. Little did she know that "with special offers" meant much more than a reduced price in exchange for a few ads. Hailey's device came with the entrapped essence of a supernatural being from another dimension who inhabits her and changes her life forever. More

About M.L. Ryan

M.L. Ryan is a professional woman - which is not to say that she gave up her amateur status, but rather that she is over-educated with a job that reflects her one-time reluctance to leave school and get "real" work – and she spends a lot of time in that profession reading highly technical material. She has many stories rolling around in her head, and she finally decided to write some of them. She prefers literature that isn’t saddled with excruciating symbolism, ponderous dialogue or worldly implications. She also doesn’t like plots so reliant on love at first sight that it makes her feel like her head might implode. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and teenage son, four cats, two dogs and two adopted desert tortoises.

This is the first book in the Coursodon Dimension Series by M.L. Ryan. I was first drawn to the is book by the cover. Someone trapped in a kindle? Cool. Once I read the blurb, I was even more hooked. Some of my favorite reads have come from books that mix genres, and this sounded like it would be one of these hard to categorize books. Sign me up!

The story opens with Hailey waking up and going about her normal routine. She lives a very staid and monotonous life. Wake up, feed the cat, drink coffee, get ready for work. This particular morning, Hailey realizes that she has run out of room for her books. While checking her email, she receives an ad for the latest Kindle, this one with "special offers" bringing the price drastically down. Hailey goes ahead a purchases the Kindle and finishes getting ready for work as a manager at a chinchilla milk dairy, never knowing how that purchase was going to changer her life.

When the blurb says Meet Hailey, that is exactly what we are doing. This is truly her story. We get to know her, from her relationship with friends and family to her education and career. It slowly builds and grows, giving us an intimate connection with Hailey. I think this is especially vital, as the story is told solely from her POV. There is some romance in the book, but it has much more of an Urban Fantasy feel to the story. The romance isn't the underlying goal of the story. This book is about Hailey's personal transformation as a person.

This book does end with a bit of a cliffhanger. But not to worry, the second book Special Rewards is out and available. Overall, this was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Science Fiction, Urban Fantasy or even Women's Fiction, because it is an empowering woman's story. I gave this book 3 stars on Goodreads and have added book 2 to my TBR pile.

I loved the premise of this book - being possessed by an alien through a Kindle. The plot unfolds as a UF romping adventure.

Special Offers
By M.L. Ryan

Divorcee Hailey Parrish has been single for three years and has no interest in men, compulsive book hoarder she decides one day to buy a kindle; once she does she is bombarded by men. The kindle that she bought for a reduced price with “special offers” comes fully installed with a man who takes over residence inside her body until he can get back to his own.

This is such a funny book! I of course had to read it after the author approached me, I mean a man in a kindle what more could a bookworm such as myself ask for? Unfortunately my kindles have never come with one. Not only does this novel have a paranormal aspect but also a science fiction approach with Sebastian, the man trapped inside Hailey, and his business partner Alex being from another world altogether where their bodies never die but their spirits move on. What makes this novel so much fun is Sebastian and Hailey are complete opposites and must manage to cohabitate the same body. This is truly a fun a quirky book though the cover does need a bit of work, do not let it fool you, this book is definitely worth reading!

A new and exciting paranormal series. The premise for this book is very unique along with some other aspects of the story. Hailey works at a dairy farm milking chinchillas! I really like the heroine. She is smart, sassy and full of snark. I found myself smiling and chuckling while reading this book. The Coursodon are "people" from another dimension, and while it doesn't give a lot of back story as to what they really are, I didn't feel like I missed anything. The book flowed really well and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. There is some light romance, but that is not the main focus of the story. There was one or two mistakes in editing, but believe me, it doesn't take away from the story! I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next!

I really enjoyed this book. I love romance, and I love the paranormal, but it bugs me when there's no other plot besides the relationship and/or the author wastes time being overly gimmicky with the supernatural. This book did neither of those things. The female lead is refreshingly smart and down-to-Earth, and the romantic scenes were enticing and modern without being crude.

Kudos to M. L. Ryan for writing a plot-based, supernatural romance that works! (And thanks for offering it in the Summer/Winter sale. Without that, I might not have discovered it.)

M.L. Ryan gives us a range of characters in Special Offers. The smart, sarcastic female protagonist; the hot, understated male interest; the womanizing, cocky male; the quintessential villain; the loyal friends; and some characters that end up surprising you. A colorful bunch of characters that were extremely fun to read about and really helped round out an already great story. The only issue character-wise that I had was that Hailey considered herself a 'plain jane', that was a little bit of a downer, but other than that she was an awesome character.

"The truth you can deal with, it's all the speculative crap that makes you nuts"

Oh! And I can't forget her cat who was initially named after a Norwegian female swashbuckler. That was an added plus since I'm obsessed with my Norwegian heritage.

There was a lot of hilarious witty banter (mostly between Hailey and Sebastian) that greatly added to the entertainment of my reading experience. Do you ever wonder what people think when you start to laugh out loud while reading? Something that cannot be helped while reading Special Offers!

" 'Hailey, I'm really sorry, but Harrison has some sort of stomach bug and he's currently curled in the fetal position on the bathroom floor moaning 'kill me', over and over' "

The concept was absolutely amazing and so unique. It was a little twisty, but without being overly complicated. Basically, just enough (complicatedness) to draw you in and keep you hooked. I must admit that I was initially a little disappointed in the subtle romance that happens between Hailey and Alex, but then I came to the realization that Special Offers is, in fact, the first of a series. I should have done a tad bit more research, huh? In my defense, I was really excited to dive into this story. So, after that realization, I was able to look at the romance in a different light and see that it actually fits with the characters perfectly.

"Seriously, if God had wanted us to to get up when it was still dark out, he wouldn't have given us eyelids"

All in all, Special Offers is a fantastically fun, extremely entertaining read that will have you laughing out loud and eager for the next in the series. I'm anxious to see where the series will take us, especially with the little clue at the end.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book at first. When reading the description, I felt that the premise was unique; I'd never come across another book quite like it. But I also knew that the execution would have to be just right or the story could go horribly wrong. Fortunately, the author hit the nail on the head in her execution of this story and I enjoyed it immensely!

I don't usually like the first person point of view in a romance, but for story it worked! Hailey's voice is refreshingly comedic and kept me laughing on every page. Her life is a walking punchline and she knows it, and is not afraid to laugh at herself. After all, she's 30, single (divorced), has no life, and for some reason the oddest things keep happening to her (like losing her job because her boss was secretly a pimp and then going on to work at a chinchilla-milking farm. Seriously.)

The whole trapped-in-a-Kindle concept was explain in a way that brought another dimension, Cosourdon to light. Unlike other paranormals that feature werewovles and vampires, this book offers a world and a people that are unique and have their own characteristics. Part science and part magic, the explanation of a world that runs parallel to ours was interesting and believable.

The secondary characters were just as vibrant and colorful as the main character. Hailey's best friends are the kind everyone loves and has. The sexy Cosourdon who steals her heart, Alex, was endearing. Sebastian, the Kindle trapped man whose spirit ends up converged with Hailey's offered a ton of laughs, and his commentary complemented Hailey's self deprecating humor.

I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to the second book in this series with relish. It is definitely a refreshing find in a sea of Paranormal books and has a unique flavor that is all its own!

This is the first book from M. L. Ryan I had read. I'm so glad I did! The author's story captured me from the very beginning. Her characters developed quickly and except for a very few instances that seemed too predictable or forced, it flowed easily and kept surprising me. I enjoyed the way M.L. Ryan kept the action moving, and I found myself both laughing out loud and holding my breath. Her main character, Hailey, is a wonderful mix of strong and klutzy, and I found her delightful. By the time I finished, I had invested myself into both the characters and the story. I was very pleased to see that there is a book 2 coming soon! Any author who thinks of creating a character who milks chinchillas for cheese, or putting a male soul into a woman, just has to have a great series ahead of her. Her story also made me chuckle as I was reading her story on a kindle - when the "possessed" kindle started all the trouble to begin with. My only question to the author would be, how do you pronounce Xyzok?? More more more, please.

If you enjoy Rose Pressy, H.P. Mallory, Debora Geary, or any of these authors, this author should be a must read for you!

I had a great time reading this book! A chinchilla-milking heroine with a possessed Kindle leads into an enjoyable story with action, suspense, and romance. I am eagerly looking forward to the sequel.

I just finished this book and absolutely loved it! I am a voracious reader, usually reading a book per day, so I have a lot of reading material to compare it to.

Special Offers is a story about a fairly ordinary young woman who finds herself in an extraordinary situation, thanks to her newly purchased ereader. The people she meets lead her into a world she had no clue existed, and make her re-think her outlook on life, love and livlihood. The story has suspense, action and stress, but it also has its moments of peace and reflection - and throughout all is a very healthy dose of humor and sass.

Ms. Ryan's writing style is refreshing and the storyline quite a bit different than other paranormal romances I've read. She did a great job of describing the characters and bringing them to life, without going on and on until I wanted to say "Enough about his hair color already!"

Also, it's obvious that she knows how to proofread. I've run across so many indie writers who not only don't know how to put a proper sentence together, but apparently don't understand how to use spellcheck. Not that I'm one of those annoying people who has to correct every typo - but it can be distracting to the story when there are multiple problems per page.

All in all, Special Offers is a great read. There's a happy ending which is also a cliffhanger - so be forewarned! I'm eagerly looking forward to the upcoming sequel.
