About Matteo Miller-Nicolato

Matteo Miller-Nicolato is a guitarist in San Diego who writes Progressive Rock music and teaches guitar. Currently he is collaborating with several other musicians from around the world to develop a compilation CD to be distributed worldwide. He is also recording, along with several other musicians from around the world, his third record (first one to be released) in 2012. Locally, he and singer Sam Brown are producing an EP, to be released in May of 2012. Matteo is also working to develop and release an Instructional DVD (also to be released in 2012 for digital sale). Additionally, Matteo is the promotion manager for a clinic/masterclass tour on the east coast (date TBA).

Matteo first picked up an electric guitar back in the year 2000, following the punk rock scene until he grew into a metal craze. Ever since 2008 he has been shredding his way into a furious fusion of experimental punk, psychedelic space rock, avante-garde jazz, and heavy metal. He began taking music lessons from virtuoso guitar player, Tom Hess in 2010.

Shortly after, he subdued a serious injury to his left hand, causing him to lose control of the fingers in his fretting hand. Neurologists speculated it was the ultimate musician’s bane, Focal Dystonia. After many months of depression and anguish, Matteo decided to ignore his left hand, and instead re-learn the guitar with the other hand! He now plays lefty guitar with even more ferocity and intensity than ever before…

Matteo is now also establishing a guitar teaching business in, and a reputation as a progressive rock guitarist in San Diego and one of the most effective instructors around. As he develops his guitar playing to a higher level, he is looking for the right musicians to form a new Progressive Rock band, following in the footsteps of an underground band, the Mars Volta.
