The Ex is a fast paced, supernatural detective novel with a welcome vein of black humour running through it. As you might expect from a writer who has written extensively about film, the book is peppered with movie references which give it an air of realism that somehow makes the supernatural elements more believable.
All in all a very entertaining read and well worth the price of admission.
