About David Schajer

There really is not much to say until about 5 years ago.

That is when Shakespeare changed my life.

I watched The Merchant of Venice and had an epiphany.

Very slowly over the next five years I wrote adaptations of Hamlet, Richard III and Merchant.

My epiphany was that Shakespeare did not write his plays to be read.

He did not write them for you or me.

He wrote them for HIS audience.

So, my adaptations take us back in time to Elizabethan London, and put us front and center in that audience to watch these plays as they would have been performed for the first time.

And it is how that Elizabethan audience reacts to the plays -- laughing when it is funny, crying when it is sad, and heckling whenever they feel like it -- that gives us, the modern audience, a translation to the play.
