About Dan Murphy

Born in Brooklyn, New York City, many moons ago, I grew up on suburban Long Island.
For the record, no one lives "IN" Long Island, but rather, "ON" the Island.
I have a distinct Long Island accent. Yeah, that's a thing. Look it up.

When people ask me where I'm from these days, I just say, "All over."
I spent my first fifty- something years on the Island, and after I retired from the Sheriff's Department, we moved to Kingsport, Tennessee. It wasn't my first choice.

But, we didn't want to stay in the cold, expensive, congested North East, so we packed up and moved to East Tennessee. We lasted five years, and now live outside of Raleigh, in North Carolina.

I've been married to the love of my life for 39 years. We have 5 grown children, and they've produced 6 beautiful grandkids,

My favorite authors include Robert B. Parker, Lawrence Sanders, Michael Connelly, and Dick Francis. But, the big inspiration for my Julie McNamara character comes from Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

I've finished 4 Julie McNamara Mysteries, and loved writing each of them. I always try to build in lots of plot twists, some social commentary, and LOTS of LAUGHS!

While this book is novella in length (approx. 130 pages), the story doesn't lack details nor is it hurried along as you would expect. The reader is introduced to Julie McNamara, who is trying to find work as a journalist. The story is a series of mini-mysteries and each are solved satisfactorily while keeping your interest.

I normally don't read smaller books because the story is too rushed. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this and would read more in the series for some quick reads.
