A struggling father attempts to protect his victimized son and begins a journey that takes him deep into the unsavory past and equally unsavory present of a beautiful coastal town. You might think that nothing significant could happen in a beautiful little coastal town like Manlow - you would be wrong. Something very significant and quite disturbing emerges as a broke and damaged Kevin Kelly struggles to keep his unfairly victimized son out of trouble.
Why are the Police reacting so severely to the minor damage caused by Kevin's son Conor? And why is the victim, Michael Brandon, a one time friend so intent on exacting maximum punishment?
As he fights for his sons future Kevin begins to ask questions. Why is Brandon’s wife Penny incarcerated in a chemical prison, isolated and alone in a mental hospital? And who is the vaguely familiar older man Kevin spots talking to Brandon one morning? What is the significance of the mutilated body that turns up on the town beach? Why is one of the towns most notorious and close knit families tearing itself apart?
Lacking more sophisticated resources Kevin turns to his damaged cop friend Seamus and the clued-in clientele of The Fiddlers, Manlow’s least respectable bar, in the process developing a habit of falling drunkenly into the arms of Marjorie Dundon, arguably Marlow’s least respectable woman.
As he digs, he begins to expose a seam of darkness running through the heart of his beloved hometown as seemingly disparate events and situations come together to form a complex and disturbing pattern like pieces of a dark jigsaw. But as the true reality of what he is dealing with finally emerges it may well be too late for Kevin and his son.

Such is the case with many of the characters in this book, some of whom might seem familiar to anyone who has grown up in the intimacy of small town life. Enjoy the read!
