Writing wasn't a childhood dream. I wanted to be a teacher. An idea I abandoned in secondary school. Studying biology at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich I discovered an interest in doing research and my wish to teach was rekindled. I did both at the Arizona State University. By the time I finished my Masters degree teaching had come out on top.
Since my return to Switzerland I have taught biology and chemistry at a gymnasium and I still enjoy doing it. But after a few years I realized that I missed the intellectual challenge of exploring new topics and had little opportunity to be creative.
Writing science fiction and fantasy stories turned out to be the counterbalance I need.
