Magical Bear Child is absolutely enchanting and ... well ... magical. I loved the characters (especially the bears!) and the story carries the reader along until you realize that the book is over and you haven't moved in hours.
Kathryn is a young woman facing the loss of everything she has ever known. Her adopted family is moving far away and she is forced, for the first time, to contemplate life without her beloved Civilized Bears. There is no place for her in King Jobert's kingdom, no longer any place for her among the Bears, and her only skills are a gift for music and the potential to be a powerful magician -- something she has no interest in despite the wishes of virtually everyone she meets. The only real friend she has left in the world is her little dog, Blacky.
Kathryn meets up with heroes and brigands, royalty and magicians. Her journey is plagued by a Trickster and haunted by a mysterious lady whose secrets might contain the answers to Kathryn's many questions. This is a story where dragons and wolves are not what they seem and the limits of love, trust and endurance are tested in a journey through the gates of Hel.
It's a journey you won't be sorry you shared with a girl and her dog.
