About Shayne Parkinson

I write historical fiction set in New Zealand, starting in the 1880s. My sixth novel, "After the Roses", takes the series to 1924. I'm fascinated by social history, particularly that of my own country.

I live in a state of barely-controlled chaos; fortunately I share my life with an invariably calm and endlessly optimistic husband. I divide my time between an apartment in the city, in reach of good espresso, and a few acres in the country, where the rank grass in the orchard is kept under control by a small mob of sheep (and where we have our own espresso machine).

When I'm not writing, reading, or engaged in mundane activities, I play the piano rather badly.

I am out of superlatives.
Book 3 in the series - oh my. Twists and turns but still with the fascinating, factual, historical information which interests me, being a lover of anything historical.
Amy sees a flushing toilet and electric light for the first time and sees how the "other half" live.
Shane Parkinson - all credit to you for producing another wonderful book that grows with the characters. No boredom in these books!!

The characters are complex and so real;sometimes I find myself holding my breath waiting to find out what is going to happen next. I have not finished the series yet but am well on my way. I like the details of everyday life in the late 1880's and descriptions of New Zealand. Best of all are the characters - how personal they become and you love/hate them all. Loved this series. I, too, downloaded the first book for free and just had to purchase the rest of them. Well worth reading!

I read all three of the books in this series and really liked all of them. The characters were well defined and I felt that I knew them by the end of the first book. Some of them I loved and admired and some I hated. But there was some sympathy, even for those who weren't perfect people. I would definitely read more by this author.

If I could give more stars I would. Shayne Parkinson really knows how to keep a story going. I have to say that every one of the books in this series lived up to my standard in reading. Many times I have experienced disapointment in books that are written in a series staring by really liking the first book than slightly disapointed in the second and by the last book feeling like I have been let down and the author really has lost interest in the writing of the book but not the case here what a wonderful job Shayne Parkinson did. I hope to read more from this wonderful writer. Thank you Shayne Parkinson for giving me the adventure of learning to love the good the bad and the sad characters in your novel.
