About Nicky Charles

Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this:

In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story-telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense-driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings.

Nicky has recently retired from her day job and now hopes to concentrate more of her energy on her new passion of writing.

When she writes, Nicky sees the story unfolding in her head like a movie and tries to include enough detail so that readers can ‘see’ the story just as she does. The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of a scene are almost as important to her as the actual plot.

Creating main characters that are ‘real’ is also something she strives for. Nicky tries to make each character different, to give them an interesting backstory, to make their actions and feelings logical and to hopefully make the reader actually care what happens to the people in the story.

Nicky lives in Canada and tries to stick to Canadian spelling and punctuation in her work, in support of her country. She is an avid supporter of animal shelters, nature conservancy, food banks and a variety of other charities. Currently she has two ‘inside’ cats and one official ‘outside’ cat though a number of strays seem to take up residence in her garden each year.

When not writing, Nicky enjoys reading – though she often bemoans that she seldom has time for it any more. Her favourite authors are Elizabeth Peters, S.C. Stephen and Cherise Sinclair. She also enjoys spending time out in nature, gardening, taking day trips and eating dark chocolate.

Excellent book... A thoroughly enjoyable read with great characters. I'm about to read The Finding, I'm sure it will be just as good!

**THIS BOOKS CONTAINS ADULT THEMES**

Werewolves, secrets, romance, and loyalty are the central themes of this continuation of Nicky Charles’ Law of the Lycans series. Fans of her earlier works asked what happened to her characters after the previous installments ended, inspiring The Keeping to be written. So, what did happen to the fans’ beloved characters? A lot!

Melody Greene, a journalism student, takes on an investigative journalism job that seems almost too lucrative to be true. Interview a nature photographer, have an all-expenses paid trip, and accrue a small fortune in the process? Definitely sounds easy enough but, like most things, it’s far from being as easy as it seems.

Ryne Taylor, a breathtaking ladies man, took a picture several years ago that continues to complicate his life. Now, this journalist won’t stop hassling him when all he wants is to have his privacy respected. She’s a fun distraction, to be sure, but her nosiness could turn his world upside down.

I was interested in the characters and the story from the very beginning, and that interest never waned. In fact, I stayed up late and woke up early, just to find out what would happen next!
It did drag on a bit towards the end, which tapered the intensity a bit. However, that didn’t keep me from sitting at the edge of my seat (Well, it got me sitting up straighter in bed), glued to my Nook’s screen. Plus, there are those steamy scenes! Not only does Nicky Charles write suspenseful shape-shifter stories, but she writes some of the hottest romantic scenes I have ever read.

I definitely plan to read more of her works, a decision only solidified by the request she made at the very end. Planning to always keep her books free, she wishes that her reads donate to an animal shelter with the money that would have been spent on her books.
4/5 stars!

This was the second book I read by Nicky Charles and also here the roles are reliable and predictable. What I enjoy so far is that nearly every book has a real action part nearing the end, which really keeps you suspended and mising your sleep.

So as with the first: This is entertaining romace as I guess it was inteded to be.

A thank you to Nicky Charles for giving us this entertainment for free. Yepp that is great! A big thank you!

After reading The Mating I was excited to see the story continue and wondered if it would have the same riveting action. It did. I liked how the original characters were brought back in, but that it was centered around two new characters for you to love. Look forward to reading The Finding.

Definitely enjoyed 'the mating' more than 'the keeping' but really loved how the author has managed to link both books successfully and creating such an interesting story line that has so much potential to go on. Can't wait to get started on the next book.
