Dead Eye: Pennies for the Ferryman

Rated 4.93/5 based on 28 reviews
My name is Mike Ross. I'm a Ferryman. I help people with ghost problems, or ghosts with people problems. Funny thing, no one ever helps me with my problems. Civil War ghosts bent on killing me, Skinwalkers who just want my body, and a vindictive spirit linked both to my bloodline and my destiny. The dead still hold a good deal of influence over the world, and they don't want to give it up.

Awesome story. There were moments when I actually had to stop reading so I could clap and cheer. The story really drew me in. There was fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, beasts, monsters, chases, escapes, sex, and paranormal oddities.

Some of the plot twists were getting a little predictable near the end, but it probably didn't help that I read the description of the sequel first. By and large, though, I loved this book. I'm hoping to see the sequel on Smashwords soon.

Bought this book after reading jbern's fan fiction and was very happy with the quality of the writing. Thought it was a rewrite of the Michael J fox movie at first but was I ever wrong! It was fast paced and had enough humour to lift it above the run of the mill stuff and give it a charm of its own.

Well worth the money and a really interesting read.

Great start to what promises to be an epic series. With lots of humor and action throughout, this is a page turner all right.

A fun, fast read. A good addition to the urban fantasy genre with some fresh takes on magic in the modern world. I will definitely pick up any sequels to come along.

Dead Eye is an outstanding book! It was engrossing and I had a tough time putting the book down. Such a great deal of originality was shown in the plot, and it also kept me laughing. I can't wait for the sequel!

A fun read and a real page turner.I can't wait to read the next book. There is wry humour to balance the horror and the author has created convincing characters in a world where people and ghosts exist alongside each other. Only a few humans have the ability to see the spirit world and Mike Ross is one of them.

Bush’s war, ghosts, Edgar Allen Poe, Civil War fighters. Amazingly, these all combine for a fascinating tale with a character we’ll remember, flaws and all. Bernheimer skillfully introduces Mike Ross, the not so balanced hero, and has created a ghost story that almost makes you want to believe in real ghosts. This is great storytelling that goes beyond just the “action” to give the reader a fulfilling story, “real people”, and a hint of the next adventure to come. A wonderful read, this book easily holds it's own with the current crop of "urban fantasy" books, and beats out some. The premise is interesting, the characters are fun and easy to relate to. I look for to more of Mr. Bernheimer's work and I hope there is a sequel.
