About Dai Alanye

No superheroes nor anything supernatural (thus far, at least.) Expect merely ordinary people - you and me, as it were - caught up in extraordinary circumstances. Plots are character-driven, and the characters themselves are complex and often contradictory.
I aim to appeal to the reader who has an ample sense of humor and an appreciation for irony. You can expect adventure and romance, but graphic violence and sex are at a minimum - think PG or PG-13 at most - and suitable for mature youths as well as adults.

About the Series: Mercenaries
A haphazard crew of time-traveling adventurers who are determined to alter history a millennium at a try. Everyone nowadays seems to have problems—money, health, politics, personal commitment, sexual identity. But if you think things are tough in the present, wait till you experience the Middle Ages. None of that mythical Arthur-Galahad-Merlin stuff but the real thing—battle axes, unruly peasants, primitive medicine, heavy taxes and all.

Enjoyable read. I liked The anticipation of an upcoming adventure, the mystery at the beginning of it and the limitless possibilities of time-travel, Doesn't drag on with boring descriptive details,
i liked reading the POV and the background of every character, and LOVED Major Swann. great read and Highly recommended.

As a reader I like the premise, plot and character development. As a thinker, I am quite intrigued by the potential for re-creating a brave (?) new world and outcomes for today - leaving aside the _backstories_ contained within the existing series.

Keep going dude!

Disclosure: I had read the second book direct from the author, and have read these books three times over the past year, getting something at each reading. I am now ready to read the third installment. FYI, my other favourites are Raymond Feist, Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle.

Not very good. Drags along for three fourths of the story. None of the characters are very likeable you never get a feeling of involvement.

A draggy waste of time in my opinion

I read this before and now I've read it again. You can do that real easily when a book is free! There's a lot of character development and a lot of history and one realistic-sounding small battle. There's a babe for a villain, and a couple other villains too, and some pretty amazing heroes and heroines. All real people.

And it's the start of a series so if you like it you can get your fill.

Plenty of action and a large cast of distinct and believable characters.
Battle of the sexes and seduction (offstage), believable time travel, a real battle with swashbuckling, menacing natives and a kangaroo court, hateful villains and lovable heroes and heroines. It helps if you like history.

It would be useful to know in advance that this is part 1 of several books. I kept waiting for something to happen......
