This essay “Evil is Everywhere” discusses the personal politics of George Lucas and the ways in which war and totalitarian power are represented in his films with a case study of the Star Wars prequels.
This dissertation was originally written as part of my Film and Television Studies degree at Northumbria University in the first half of 2011.
After the praise I received for the essay itself (First Class Honours) and the questions I got from friends about the piece I decided to put the whole thing online to share with everyone. I hope that this text interests and inspires other fans of cinema, Star Wars and George Lucas as much as I was interested in the subject matter whilst writing it. At the time, writing the piece seemed like a daunting task with a mammoth word count that I could never hope to reach, once I’d gone past the word limit I wished that I could have written even more!

Thanks and please enjoy!
