The title grabbed me right away. The voice is great - a real pleasure to follow through the story. The concept of the Ministry of Excuses was interesting and funny. This could easily be stretched out into a full-length novel - I really want to know where we are in time and space, what the main character's private life is like, what their personal struggles are and how working for the Ministry of Excuses affects their private lives, etc. There are many possibilities for this story. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I really liked the opening scene. It was funny and charming, and a great introduction to the main character. Although I'm pretty sure that head-hunting refers to seeking employees from another company. And a phobic obsession with the letter R would result in aversion, not obsessive collection of things that start with that letter. Other than the occasional word confusion, though, it's a funny story. I would have liked it to be longer.
