I was actually fluctuating between a 2-star or 3-star review for this book. There are four books listed for this series, and Stained is most definitely an introduction to the series, with a lot of back story and character building. There were parts of this book that had me shaking my head in disbelief and confusion. Things became a bit clearer when they arrived at the seer's house - oh, the irony! (Rosa or Rosalina, I can't remember her name right now).

Julia and Cayne as characters are hard to describe because I have absolutely no idea who they are, or what they're doing. Cayne is suffering from memory loss when we first meet him, and he slowly becomes almost likeable. However, once he regains his memory, he reverts back into a first class tool which Julia apparently can't get enough of. They literally go from one minute and he is leaving her, to the next minute and they are in bed together (fade to black). WHAT?!?!?!

With a multitude of characters and situations that can be quite confusing, I have no idea who, what, why or when. This book also ends on a cliffhanger, leaving me no clearer on what I am reading. This is most definitely a marmite book, but I'm afraid it's not one for me.

I got this free copy off of Amazon, and I am so happy to have just come by it one day!

I thought this book was amazing... I love that Ella James has left so much unsaid and left her readers asking for more.. I personally WANT more :)!! I was like "I have to know what's going on" threw the whole book. But I think authors have to do something to keep their readers intrasted. I feel so bad for Julia and how her life has been, and it's just getting worse. (or is it?) I love Cayen as the bad boy who is trying to be good (as good as he can be). I am ready to get toknow more about Cayen as him self, not has the bad boy! And I really want to know more about Julia aswell. What is she? What happend to her parents? And alot more questions. So ya'll know what I will be doing. Reading the rest of this series :) I recomend this book to everyone!! Hope all enjoys as much as I did.

When I started this book, I went into it with low to zero expectations. I’ve read Before You Go by this same author awhile ago, and even though the writing was good, I wasn’t too impressed with the story or its characters. Once I got to the second chapter of Stained though, I was hooked.

As far as paranormal romances go, the plot isn’t really new or unique, but it is exciting and in the first two thirds of the book there is a lot of action and enough vagueness which raises loads of questions and keeps you turning the pages to find the answers. Ella James’s writing flows easily and she manages to draw the reader into the story by slowly unveiling the background stories of the two main characters, which of course adds more twists and secrets to the plot.

However, as much as I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue of Stained, I felt that in some places the story was rushed and there were quite a few jumps in logic. Certain things didn’t make sense to me at all and although I found the dream sequences to be imaginative and mysterious, they were also lengthy and didn’t add anything to the development of the story. I also found it strange that a two-hundred-year old character doesn’t know how to drive, but he masters this skill in less than two days and outruns the villains on the interstate, driving like a pro.

Stained is the first book in the Stained Series, so I’m guessing most of the questions I still had unanswered by the end of the book, will probably be addressed in one of the next books in this series. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and although Julia’s character got on my nerves from time to time, I still liked her as she acted the way a real seventeen-year old would. Cayne - mood-swings and all - is definitely worth the read too. Overall, this is a quick and enjoyable read, nothing too series. Judging by everything that had happened in this book, the rest of the series looks promising and I highly recommend it to paranormal romance addicts. Now I’m looking forward to reading Ella James’s Here.

Funny thing about this book is, I live in Memphis,Tennessee and I lived on Galloway street for a few years. There was also a house that caught on fire.

I would like to thank Ella James for providing me with an ebook copy of Stained to read and provide an honest review of this book.

Blurb from Goodreads:

After a fire destroys seventeen-year-old Julia’s home and kills her foster parents, she chases the half-demon responsible across the country and back, determined to avenge her family and discover why a host of celestial baddies want her dead. With Julia is enigmatic hottie - Cayne, who has his own score to settle with the half-demon, and who might be just as dangerous as the creature he and Julia hunt.

This book is riveting from the very start! There is action, adventure, romance, and intrigue that keeps you wanting to read more from beginning to end. The characters are well thought out and developed. The scenes are described in great detail, I felt like I was right there experiencing what the characters were: their fear, their happiness, their sadness.

Julia is the main female character. She is smart and sassy, funny and wise. She knows what she wants, when she wants it. And she's not afraid to go after it. She is running for her life, but constantly finds the exact danger she is trying to avoid. In order to avenge her family and find out why she is one of the "stained" she searches for answers from a host of celestial beings.

One of those "beings" is Cayne. He is one enigmatic boy! He keeps his distance from Julia, yet you can feel the tension that draws them together throughout the entire book. He warns her to stay away, but she just cannot resist. Their connection is undeniable. But Cayne holds secrets even he cannot know, because his memory has been wiped away. He is mysterious and magnetic.

Together they search for Samyaza, a half-demon out to find them both. Each has their own reason to want Samyaza dead, and together they intend to find him. They travel about the country finding solace in different places through different people.

All culminating in a climatic ending where what you thought you knew is nothing compared to what you find out! It's a total cliff hanger, and completely unexpected at that!

All in all this book is well written and certainly has me wanting more. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a bit of the paranormal mixed with action, adventure and romance. I cannot wait to read the sequel.

4 out of 5 stars from me!
