About Emily Spencer

Emily was born in Hampstead, London in 1991, the daughter of a Russian doctor father and English social worker mother. She studied English at Essex University and now works as a social worker. Ten Suicide Notes is her first novel.

Her comments on Ten Suicide Notes: "I wanted to write portraits of ten people who are pushed to the edge by no fault of their own. I'll leave it up the reader to decide whether these are good people or bad people, but I think it's a cliche to say that suicide is a cry for help, because that implies everyone can be "helped" back into life. Some people can't be helped and I think if we understand this, we can better understand suicide"
