Texas Promise is a true Texas love story that shows the author's love for her own state of Texas and its history. Oh, and there is a love story mixed in with the scenery. Dalton and Jo experience growth and disappointments in the marriage they jump into as new adults just as the territory itself jumps in and finds itself as it establishes into a fully recognized state that can stand on its own as well as together with the union. I loved the metaphor of the couple echoing the territory, the ups and downs, love and hate, loss and renewal. Overall, Texas Promise is a bumpy, exciting ride amid a background of desert, tumbleweeds, and oil fields.
