In Poppet's first foray into writing YA we get to go back in time and meet Darise, Seithe, Ellindt and Jowendrhan as teenagers. Born half human and half Angel, their lives are full of situations and choices that will effect the entire world. They have been given water from the underworld river, Lethe, so they can forget the details of the past and Seithe will face tests that will make or break who he will forever be.

On the beach, he is run into by a local girl Tasmin, and meeting a pure heart and beautiful soul, he begins to believe in redemption. His guardian and uncle, Venix, is not a nurturing sort. At a time where Seithe needs support and wisdom, he seems to be set on teaching his nephew's life lessons in a ditatched, cold, hard manner.

Luckily, Seithe has two people looking out for him and his siblings. Arelstin, and their Aunt, Selene, who step in to lend support and do damage control. (Everyone should have an Aunt Selene!)

The writing is classic Poppet. She takes words and weaves them into vivid scenery and emotion as only she can. You will be transported to a South Africa so real you will feel like you can close your eyes, reach out and touch it. You will smell the ocean and feel the fog and wind. You will meet terrifying underwater legends. Your heart will beat double time with the anticipation of discovering pure, true love and stop completely in terror while on a roller coaster of discovery and high emotion. There are unexpected twists, turns and nasty surprises. The fight against evil is never quite clear cut with Poppet!

I totally enjoyed this book and can't wait to find out what happens next in Ellint's book, Scarlet Vamporium. Poppet is addictive. She makes you think and you will almost always learn something new. A refreshing, intelligent voice that is sadly lacking in a lot of todays fiction.
