About Melissa Lummis

Melissa Lummis considers herself a truth seeker, a peaceful warrior, a paranormal and fantasy writer, an avid reader, a thru-hiker GAME ’98, a wife, a mother, and a free thinker. She believes the universe conspires to help an adventurer. And if we live our lives as if it is a daring adventure (and it is!), then everything we need will find its way to us.

The author lives in rural Virginia with her husband, two children, an Alaskan Malamute and a myriad of forest creatures. The nature of her mind dictates that she write to stay sane. Otherwise, her fertile imagination takes off on tangents of its own accord, creating scenarios and worlds that confuse the space-time continuum. Namaste, dear friends.

Reviews of Enlightened by Melissa Lummis

I am a professional reader. I have been for a long time in one form or another. Books normally don’t shock me or surprise me. I read a lot of them and more times than not, they all seem to blend together. Enlightened taught me not to judge a book by it’s cover. I honestly thought I was going to read a hippy, dippy book about yoga and romance. Um boy was I wrong. What starts out as a retreat from herself, her life and her husband’s death, Loti sets out to train to be a yogini, to achieve a semblance of peace and balance. She stumbles into a destiny that seems to have been hers all along, but was being kept from her. Loti finds she has an enemy she never knew existed (and with the help of her friend Rachel, her family and new unexpected family Loti picks up on the way) she has to battle this unknown enemy, fight a strange bond to a vampire of all things, and save the world! (Well not really but pretty close) This is a great book with a brilliantly crafted and well thought out characters plus a fantastic supernatural adventure. I honestly could not put it down, it was a great lazy Sunday read.

For a debut novel I was extremely impressed with Enlightened and I am really looking forward to reading more from Melissa and hopefully get to read more of Loti’s adventures!

There really is something alluring about vampires...and a little scary. In the paranormal genre we get accustomed to all the common "truths" we have grown up with about witches, vampires, healers, shapeshifters, and werewolves. These are tested and twisted when Lummis introduces us to a mythical new life form that will intrigue the reader.

Lummis takes some liberties when she introduces a pack of enlightened vampires, working toward the spiritual growth and enlightenment of the world alongside hippies, a guru and yoginis. Amazingly, it works. You can feel the caring and connection they have with each other and for good. This close knit group of vampires, witches and healers work to save the world form a demented mind older than all of them.

Enlightened is a well written story with surprises around every turn. I was up late three nights in a row reading until my eyes could not be propped open. If you are a paranormal genre reader you will enjoy this story immensely and, I imagine, the sequels she promises to deliver.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. These opinions are 100% my own.
