As a child, books were my constant companion. I've always loved to read, but I didn't start writing until I was twelve. I've had two books published with Harlequin under the name Kasi Blake, but YA books are my favorites. I never outgrew them.
I teach kindergarten thru 2nd grade at a private school, and I reside in Missouri with my two cats, Blanca and Gracie Bear.

This book was AMAZING! A very poignant read. This was a very touching love story with very strong characters. I am very impressed with this author. I haven't read that many books twice lately, but this one will be an exception :) I wish the best for K.C. Blake.

I was completely blown away by this book. I've been trying to cut back on reviewing books lately so I can work my way through the never-ending-always-growing TBR pile, so I wasn't sure if I should try this book, it was only when I looked it up on Goodreads and saw it had such a high rating that I thought I should give it a go. I'm still patting myself on the back for that great decision.
This book start off exciting and interesting, even the not as eventful parts are still really engaging. I don't think there was a time throughout the whole book that I wasn't on the edge of my seat begging my brain to faster make sense of the words before me. This book was that good.
The writing was absolutely breathtaking, this author sure knows how to weave her words. The only times I was pulled out of the story were when I had to give a little pause just so I could admire the amazingness of how the story flowed. I like writing myself and it is such a delight when I read a book that is just written to perfection.
The characters were fantastic, each one was unique and interesting. I could never quite tell who had an ulterior motive, so I just remained suspicious of everybody. Bay-Lee and Nick were so good together. There was so much fire between them and I loved reading every scene between them!
This book is well worth reading and I am very much anticipating the next book in the series. The entire time while reading this I both simultaneously wanted it to end and go on for ever. I needed to know what happened but at the same time, I was reluctant to leave that world. Very engaging and a pleasure to read. Definitely something any paranormal fans should read!

Hear Van Helsing's name in any context and I immediately assume vampires, but in Bait K C Blake has used elements from the traditional paranormal genre and added her own interpretation, creating a story which is imaginative and original.
Bait is not a straightforward YA paranormal story; the characters have secrets and are flawed; the plot is sophisticated and difficult to predict and the world of Van Helsing's castle is mysterious but enchanting.
I enjoyed the way in which the story has several threads running through, although at times I felt the main plot became overshadowed by secondary events and it is possible for a reader to lose focus.
K C Blake has concentrated very hard in Bait on developing relationships between characters, which I think enables the reader to build a stronger emotional connection to the story. I am looking forward to seeing how she continues this in the sequel.
I found Bait a really good paranormal story because of K C Blake's unique take on the genre; the interesting characters who have depth and the mystery of the plot. One I definitely recommend!
This was received as a review copy, but this has had no influence on my opinion.
