Don Stratton was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. After earning a Ph.D. in physiology at Southern Illinois University he taught for thirty-three years at Drake University in the Department of Biology. Students twice selected him as university teacher of the year and seven times in the College of Arts and Sciences. His research on vascular smooth muscle in the Hypertension Research Laboratory resulted in over thirty-five scholarly papers. McGraw Hill published his textbook on Neurophysiology, and he was selected to give the college's prestigious Luther W. Stalnaker lecture. Don was named Ellis and Nelle Levitt Distinguished Professor of Physiology and now lives as professor emeritus in Venice, Florida with his wife, Pauline and dog, Gracie, where he enjoys golf, singing in a men's chorus, and writing.
