To the layman, acne scarring is simply an abnormal response to skin damage, and this damage is usually caused by inflammation caused by an acne breakout, and the ineffective means to treat that breakout. Acne is simply a more damaging form of pimple breakouts, where skin tissue is damaged deeper in the dermis.
