Catchlight: Perspective Through an Optimistic Lens (and true story about a heart transplant)
Catchlight offers comfort, guidance, a few laughs, a perspective-shift to a more positive outlook, unobstructed insight into the organ transplantation process, and a story that others can draw strength from when confronted by their own unimaginable circumstances (cancer, loss, terminal illness, disaster, the unknown). “The boy I’d had a crush on since high school, now my husband and father of our baby girl, is fighting for his life after an aggressive staph infection has ravaged his heart and placed him at the top of the transplant list. We’re facing financial crisis, massive lay-offs, soaring medical bills, and worse... impending toddlerhood. Life can be so uncool. Good thing I’m armed.”
Finding humor, hope, and strength to endure just about anything may not seem as difficult after reading Catchlight, a memoir that has already inspired thousands. Open the pages to step inside the unique mind of an eternal optimist, and experience how one thinks, processes, and responds to stress.
Genevieve Ruth’s conversational prose feels welcoming, like an old friend, and is infused with just enough self-deprecation to keep things light as she shares intimate details about her past, the very real, very scary present, and how she is able to remain positive and keep her sanity, while fighting to stay strong for those who are unable to.

ABOUT THE COVER ART
It is one of several heart-works created by the subject of this book, years before knowing he would need a transplant. It features an older male and female, connected by a purple heart with a gold center. It is a beautiful and symbolic image to honor and illustrate the story of both donor and recipient.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Author and award-winning photographer, Genevieve Ruth, hails from the Great Northwest. She has held several certifications in the medical and dental fields, has a background in communications, and has spent the majority of her professional career in executive administration.
After her husband, Nate, spent three months in a hospital ICU with heart complications (and ultimately required a transplant), she was inspired with purpose, and has since been advocating the critical importance of organ donation registration.
This is how the “Catchlight” series emerged. By uniting with other artists, patients, and advocates alike, Genevieve uses this platform to share the stories and messages of hope, inspiration, and encouragement.
A portion of proceeds from the sale of all Catchlight-related media supports nonprofit organ donation agencies and helps fund a research program that Nate’s transplant surgeon uses for drug development and testing, specifically for the universal benefit of transplant patients.
