About Conny Jansky

Conny Jansky was born in Austria where she studied International Development Studies as well as Business Informatics. After living and working in several countries, she moved to Madrid, Spain, where she has been living since 2009.

Arriving at one of the hotspots of financial turmoil, she was inspired to write her first novel "Two Cats and a Chicken Shop Mystery" which was published in 2012. The story recounts real events from the peak of ‘la crisis’ and fuses them with fictional references to Spanish history and contemporary mythology that were inspired by research on sociology of miracles. The Spanish translation of the novel, "Dos gatos y el misterio del Mercado de la Cebada", was published in 2014.

Her latest work takes up George Orwell’s famous "Animal Farm" (1945) and continues its plot as a historical review of modern industrial societies with a sarcastic interpretation of the myth of perpetual growth in the context of the ongoing climate crisis and mass extinction of species. "A Donkey’s Diary" was written in free-range conditions and published during the coronavirus quarantine in spring 2020 from where the author is developing her next story on social change during times of historic transformation.

A short mystery novel that would have profited by being a whole lot shorter. Plus it's weird.

Not too bad on a minor aspect of history, though.

This is a very unusual book following the adventures of Consuelo, a determined and intrepid middle-aged Spanish lady who works in a market in Madrid. The storyline has elements of Dan Brown, delving into mysterious aspects of the history of Spain, but I preferred it to his books - it has what his books don't have - a wry sense of humour, realistically observed characters and an unusual minute-by-minute diary style.
This is a very original and compelling story - I was truly impressed!

it's hard for me to describe this book because in the beginning it started out boring to me. but after reviewing the extra content it kind of made sense. i found it scandalous after revealing the true intents of some protagonists which were kept in the dark by the author for a long time. in the end i liked it a lot!

What an amazing story! C.R. Martínez did a great job in history research and wrote a fascinating novel with a good sense of humour. After reading the book the author gives the great opportunity to find out more bizarre facts and see images on which I found indeed interesting.
Hope to read more from C.R. Martínez soon!
