Blair Atherton, Ph.D., now retired, was a research scientist, university professor, and administrator. In young adulthood he left the church to strike a path free of religious doctrine and ritual choosing instead to seek what he believed to be a more free and pure spirituality unfettered by the restrictions and synoptic vision of the church.
After his wife died unexpectedly, Dr. Atherton went through a spiritual reawakening, and was propelled by remarkable inspirations into a state of expanding spiritual awareness. This led him to write his first book, Building a Bridge Between Two Worlds, that chronicles a series of life-changing spiritual experiences. Through the inspirations he received, he began to understand for the first time his own spirituality and what it means to be a spiritual person.
He documented these newfound revelations in essays, verse, and dialogues in his second book, An Echo in the Woods, which is an integration of the spiritual knowledge and understanding he derived from both inspiration and examination of a wide variety of scripture and other spiritual writings across all of the major world religions.
Neither of his two books presents any sort of academic analysis of religion or spirituality. Rather, his writing reflects his very personal synthesis and internalization of what he views to be the most basic and fundamental qualities of spiritual life for everyone. His books provide answers to basic questions about spirituality held by both religious and nonreligious persons.
