About A Girl

Rated 3.67/5 based on 3 reviews
My take on the "twist ending" genre. Nothing you haven't seen/read before, but it's only 5 pages long and it's kind of happening around Christmas, so give it a go.

This was an interesting little story. Not sure if I quite understood it all and it does have some twists and turns. It is a quick read and enjoyable.

I have to say I don't normally get far with stories in the present tense but after a few paragraphs this drops back into the past tense so I kept on reading. Not sure about that start, it was a bit disconcerting, but it seemed to be a powerful situation developing. The writing was confidently presented and the dialogue convincing. Yes, a twist ending, just a little underpowered I felt, not quite the shock that might have been hoped for, but overall it was a well-constructed short story.

I wish the author was less self-deprecating in the description of this story - it is a LOT better than he suggests! Well written, this story kept me involved and interested. The ending wasn't a complete twist (most people will probably pick it), but that doesn't matter. the point, I think, is to tell a tale well and Shelby has done that here. Like your style dude - well done.
