Bursa occurs when a closed sac gets filled with fluid. It is a surface that glides ad causes the reducing of the friction that usually happens between the moveable tissues of the body. Bursitis generally affects adults in their middle years of life, and is mostly connected to the female gender than it is to the males of the species. There are different types of bursitis, mainly affecting the elbow, the knee, the shoulder, the ankle and the heel. Rest, anti-inflammatory medication, and sometimes surgery are necessary to treat bursitis.
Once this condition flares up, it usually goes away by itself and surgery is usually the last resort by way of treatment. There is truly nothing about bursitis that cannot be solved once you do not keep aggravating the affected area so that the inflammation can subside. Once that happens and the swelling goes down, then you are back on your way to fast recovery.
Unless of course, the inflammation is so great so much so that it warrants a surgical procedure. This surgical procedure is usually the simple incision that is made to remove the bursa, or the less invasive procedure wherein a needle is used to drain the bursa and it remains in the body.
